Important Message: Emailing from GP

Updated January 26, 2022

Since fall 2021, Cargas has been tracking an issue where customers using older versions of GP are suddenly unable to email from GP when using Office 365.  You may receive messages that an "Unknown Error has Occurred."  Customers who implemented workarounds are finding that the workaround no longer works.

Technical details: Impacted customers are using Office 365  and GP is configured to use the Exchange connector.  GP version 18.2 or older is in use.  This is related to older versions of Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.0 and 1.1 being removed in Office 365.  Versions 18.3 (Oct 2020 release) and 18.4 (Oct 2021 release) are not affected.

Recommended course of action: If you have not attempted your emailing capability recently, please test it. If you experience an issue, please visit support.cargas.com and open a Dynamics GP ticket with us so we can help you.

Resolution: The resolution is to upgrade to a supported version of GP.  According to Microsoft's modern lifecycle policy, this would be versions 18.3 or 18.4.

For customers unable to upgrade due to a legacy requirement, use of the Exchange connector must be discontinued.  Please visit support.cargas.com and open a Dynamics GP ticket with us to work through details.

UPDATE: Impacted versions of GP are 18.2 (released October 2019) and earlier.

  • Hi Jodie,

Thanks, does this mean we probably can't send vendors notifications via e-mail for ACH payments if we currently have just GP 18.2?  Once we are set-up to upload our ACH's to the bank, we can circle back and confirm that we are in fact not able to send e-mails via GP, but either way please keep us in the loop.

    Thank you,

  • Hi James,

What we do know is that Microsoft is decommissioning older technology.  The recommendation to stay current is especially important if using functionality that integrates with other aspects of the Microsoft platform (example emailing, Word forms, workflow).

We think what was done the week of 10/25 was changed or reversed for the time being.  For customers who have experienced the issue, we did find workarounds.

Since you have already made the transition to the modern lifecycle with version 18.2, the patches are not as significant as upgrades were in the past. I'd recommend you plan to patch.  I know our account managers are actively following up on an initiative to keep customers current.  I'll share your update with your Account Manager.  In the meantime, if you have any problems or questions, please don't hesitate to open a ticket.

  • Hello,

A quick update on this.  We have received an update from Microsoft yesterday.  The deadline for the retirement of these older technologies is firm.  The deadline for upgrading to a supported version is October 2022.

Here is a link to a presentation from Microsoft on this topic, including technical instructions for IT: https://community.dynamics.com/gp/b/dynamicsgp/posts/dynamics-gp-and-modern-authentication
