General Posting Setup Cheat Sheet

 

The Business Central General Posting Setup determines the GL accounts that will be posted when transaction detail is posted, such as line items on a sales or purchase order, or an item journal.  The posting setup is determined by the General Business Posting Group assigned to the customer or vendor, and the General Product Posting Group assigned to the Item, Item Charge, Resource, or GL account used on a line.

 

Category Account Type Description
Sales Account P&L The revenue account to credit on sales invoice lines.
Sales Credit Memo Account P&L The revenue contra account to debit on sales credit memo lines.
Sales Line Discount Account P&L The discount account to debit/credit when discounting a sales line
Sales Pmt. Tolerance Debit Acc. P&L The account to debit when payment tolerances get invoked.
Sales Pmt. Tolerance Credit Acc. P&L The account to credit when payment tolerances get invoked.
Sales Prepayments Account Balance Sheet The account to debit when a sales prepayment invoice is created.
Purchases Account P&L The account to debit when a purchase invoice is posted.  Set this to the same account as Direct Cost Applied.  This is a special account and it should always have a zero balance.
Purchases Credit Memo Account P&L The account to credit when a purchase invoice is posted.  Set this to the same account as Direct Cost Applied.  This is a special account and it should always have a zero balance.
Purchase Line Discount Account P&L The account to credit when discounting a purchase line.
Purchase Invoice Discount Account P&L The account to credit when discounting a purchase invoice.
Purchase Pmt. Tolerance Debit Acc. P&L The account to debit when payment tolerances get invoked.
Purchase Pmt. Tolerance Credit Acc. P&L The account to credit when payment tolerances get invoked.
Purchase Prepayments Account Balance Sheet The account to credit when a purchase prepayment invoice is created.
COGS Account P&L The account to debit when a sales invoice is posted.  The is the offset to the inventory relief.
COGS Account (Interim) Balance Sheet The account to debit when a sales shipment is posted and Expected Cost Posting is enabled in the inventory setup.
Inventory Adjustment Account P&L The account to credit/debit when positive/negative inventory adjustments are posted.
Direct Cost Applied Account P&L The account to credit when a purchase invoice is posted.  Set this to the same account as the Purchases and Purchases Credit Memo Accounts.  This should be a special account and it should always have a zero balance.
Overhead Applied Account P&L Manufacturing Only.  The account to credit/debit for the labor component posted through Capacity Journals or when backflushing through Production or Output journals.
Purchase Variance Account P&L Standard Cost Only.  The account to debit/credit when there is a standard cost variance on a purchase line.
Purchase FA Discount Account P&L The account to credit when a Fixed Asset is used on a purchase invoice and discounted.
