How do I enable the new 1099 functionality?

This article addresses two scenarios. Please use the appropriate section.

  • You are still on Business Central v26
  • You have already been upgraded to v27 or the feature has already been enabled on v26

How do I know which version I am on?

You can find the current version in Business Central by doing the following in Business Central:

  1. Click the ? in the upper right hand corner.
  2. In the Help pane that opens, click help and support.
  3. Take note of the version string and follow the appropriate instructions below.
    1. Version: US Business Central 26.5 (Platform 26.0.42141.0 + Application 26.5.38752.42305, or
    2. Version: US Business Central 27.1 (Platform 27.0.42139.0 + Application 27.1.41698.42551)

I am still on version 26 and the feature has NOT been enabled.

Enabling the new feature on v26 requires converting existing 1099 data to the new database tables. Thankfully, there is a wizard that makes this easy.

  1. Click on the magnifying glass and search for Feature Management. Screenshot 2025-12-08 154506.png
  2. Find the line that reads Feature Update: Enable using 1099 forms to transmit the tax data to the IRS in the United States.
    1. the feature is not enabled if the Enabled For column reads None. If the column reads All Users, then the feature has already been enabled. You can follow the section I have already been upgraded to v27 or the feature has already been enabled on v26 to verify the setup.
    2. Change the Enabled For column to All Users.
    3. You will be warned that once enabled, the feature cannot be disabled. Click Yes to enable. This begins a wizard to walkthrough a few setup steps.
      1. Click Next.

        1. Collect Details for Line: this will record values in the Vendor Ledger Entries. This will make it easier to analyze 1099 values in the future. The recommendation is to enable this field.
        2. Protect TIN controls where the TIN is masked on the 1099 form. When masked, only the last four digits will print. Example: TIN 123456789 will print XXXXX6789.
          1. None: Neither the Vendor nor the Company TIN will be masked.
          2. Protect TIN for Vendors: Only the vendor's TIN will be masked on the 1099.
          3. Protect TIN for Vendors and Company: Both the vendor and company TIN will be masked.
